Christie’s Corner

I can’t remember how the old quote goes, but I think something like this; “Behind every successful woman is a wonderful and creative mother.” And if that’s NOT a famous quote it should be. I said it.

My mom, Christie, is a kick! (Shown here with my dad who is only allowed near the outdoor grill; he has no indoor kitchen privileges.) She’s taught me everything I know in the kitchen; either by her own instruction or by following her few kitchen rules.

1. Use only the best kitchen tools and freshest ingredients.
2. If your food turns out ugly but tastes great, say it’s a “rustic version.”
3. Put your soup in Champagne flutes, your custards in martini glasses, and set your table before each meal. Honor the food that nourishes your body and your soul.

Now, here are some recipes either adapted or stolen from my mom, my friends, or my cookbooks. But it’s safe to say I’ve never had an original idea in my life. I do, however, take great liberties with recipes. I rarely add salt, I double down on the chocolate, I think bacon fat belongs in far more recipes than it appears.

Now, turn up the music, open a bottle of bubbly and enjoy!
